Gait Analysis & Mobility Assessment for Dogs and Cats

Helping pets move comfortably again

Gait analysis is a way of looking at how your dog or cat moves to identify areas of pain, stiffness, or imbalance. At MSK Vets, we use advanced technology to provide an objective assessment of your pet’s mobility, helping to guide treatment and track improvements over time.

Passive Stance Assessment

  • Your pet stands on a special mat that measures how much weight they place on each leg.
  • Dogs usually carry around 60% of their weight on their front legs and 40% on their back legs.
  • Pets in pain may shift weight away from sore limbs, which can lead to other muscles or joints being overworked.

Dynamic Gait Analysis

  • Using our Zebris CanidGait treadmill, we measure your pet’s movement in detail.
  • Sensors in the treadmill capture step length, gait cycle, speed, and how your pet uses each limb.
  • This can reveal subtle lameness that isn’t visible during a normal walk.
  • Videos and a full report are generated for you and your vet, helping to create a personalised plan for your pet’s comfort and mobility.

What to expect

  • Pets usually take a few minutes to get used to the treadmill. Most enjoy the experience!
  • The session is safe and stress-free, with guidance from our team throughout.
  • After the assessment, you’ll receive a clear report explaining what we found and how it can help guide treatment.

Why gait analysis matters

  • Identifies hidden pain or stiffness early, before it becomes more serious.
  • Helps tailor treatment plans for arthritis, joint injuries, or back problems.
  • Tracks improvement over time to ensure your pet is benefiting from therapy.
