Radiography (X-Rays) for Dogs and Cats

Seeing inside your pet’s joints to guide treatment

Radiography, or X-rays, is a safe and commonly used tool to help us understand joint and bone conditions in dogs and cats. At MSK Vets, we use X-rays as part of a complete assessment to help your vet and our team make the best decisions for your pet’s care.

How it works

X-rays take detailed images of bones and joints to show areas that may be painful or stiff.

  • If your pet has had recent X-rays at their usual vet, we can often review those electronically before your appointment.
  • In some cases, we may take new X-rays on site to get the best view of the area of concern.

Why X-rays matter

  • They help us understand the cause of stiffness, limping, or arthritis in your pet.
  • X-rays are just one part of a complete assessment — pain and inflammation can exist even when bones look normal.
  • For complex cases, your pet may need additional imaging, such as a CT scan or MRI. If this is recommended, your own vet can help arrange it.

What to expect

  • X-rays are quick, safe, and non-invasive.
  • Most pets are relaxed during the procedure, and our team ensures they are comfortable at all times.
  • The results are used to guide tailored treatment plans that may include therapies, exercise plans, or joint injections.
